Autcherlonies Golf Shop Raided by "Professional Gang"

At approximately 1am on Thursday, 15 January, Auchterlonies of St Andrews golf shop was raided by a “professional gang,” according to The Courier.

A group of four individuals reportedly broke into the golf shop and ransacked the premises before fleeing in a black Range Rover a few minutes later. The car allegedly had false number plates.

The value of items stolen is yet to be confirmed. However, The Courier reports losses of approximately thousands of pounds of golf equipment from high-end brands such as Callaway, Ping, TaylorMade, Scotty Cameron, and Odyssey.

Auchterlonies, a world-famous institution for golf, was established in St Andrews in 1895. It was opened by former Open champion Willie Auchterlonie and has since become a family-run business. Its location on Golf Place, near the junction between Golf Place and North Street, places it less than 100 metres from the Old Course.

This incident comes almost a decade after the sentencing of criminal gang members for an attempted armed robbery at the Old Course Hotel’s Mappin and Webb jewellery store in 2016.

The Saint contacted representatives of Auchterlonies, who said they were unable to provide a comment due to the ongoing investigation.

That is such a frustrating thing to read about, especially for a shop with real history and character behind it. Places like that are more than retail spaces, they become part of the rhythm of a town. Seeing a business targeted so deliberately feels personal, even to people who have only visited once. I remember how upset everyone was when a small local store near me was broken into, because it shook that sense of comfort people build around familiar places. Hoping they recover quickly and get plenty of community support. It even reminds me of reading hammacher schlemmer reviews , where trust and reputation mean so much to how people choose where to shop.
