On 11 October at around 10:20am, four men were taken to hospital following a serious collision involving a BMW and a tractor on the A915, south of St Andrews and near Cairnsmill Caravan Park.

The crash involved a white BMW 3 Series and a blue New Holland tractor. Emergency services attended the scene, with an air ambulance and several ground ambulances responding, according to The Courier.

The twenty-year-old BMW driver was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee with serious injuries. The two passengers, both also twenty-years-old, were taken to the same hospital, where one sustained life-threatening injuries, and the other was transported as a precaution. The 46-year-old tractor driver was also taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

Images and reports described a badly damaged scene, with The Courier reporting that the BMW had been left burnt out and the tractor overturned following the collision.

Police Scotland closed the road while emergency services dealt with the incident and investigations began. The BBC reported that the road had reopened, while The Courier stated that the closure lasted almost 24 hours, with traffic allowed through again early in the morning on 12 October.

Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and are asking members of the public to provide information that could help establish what occurred.

Sergeant Phil Winning appealed directly to potential witnesses. In a statement quoted by the BBC and The Courier, he urged “those who witnessed the crash and have yet to speak to officers or anyone who was in the area prior and had information that could assist, to come forward.”

Motorists who travelled along the route around the time of the incident are also being asked to review any dashcam recordings they may have that could assist in the investigation.

Police Scotland is asking anyone with information to contact them by the 101 phone number, quoting incident number 1034 of 11 October.

The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to determine the full circumstances of the collision.
