A search is underway for a former University of St Andrews student, Bill Logan de Witt, 29, who was declared missing after being last seen exiting the St Andrews Students’ Association at approximately midnight on Sunday 5 April.

According to statements released by Police Scotland and shared via University communications and social media, de Witt had been “recently living” in Cellardyke, Fife.

According to The Courier, he is described as 5ft 10in tall, of “heavy build, blue eyes and glasses, with long dark brown hair and facial hair.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed that de Witt has been formally reported missing and urged members of the public to assist in ongoing enquiries. “Bill De Witt, 29, is reported missing. He was last seen leaving St Andrews Student Union about 12:11am on Sunday,” the statement read.

The University of St Andrews also circulated an internal email to students and staff at the request of police, highlighting the urgency of the search.

A post shared on Instagram today by the University emphasised the importance of community support in locating the missing former student, encouraging widespread sharing and directing anyone with relevant information to contact authorities.

A second-year female student shared with The Saint that she observed a search helicopter — speculated to have been used in a nighttime search — circling St Andrews around 10:30pm on Wednesday 8 April.
