Two Sexual Attacks Reported in St Andrews
Police Scotland are searching for assailants in two sexual attacks in and around St Andrews.
On Tuesday, 21 July at around 6pm a man exposed himself to a woman on the Lade Braes, near Hepburn Gardens and Cocksaugh Path.
The man is described as white, approximately 5 foot 7, and of slim build. He was wearing a black jacket, dark-coloured trousers, and a black or grey beanie. His face was obscured by a snood and sunglasses.
On Wednesday, 22 July a woman was sexually assaulted on the Fife Coastal Path, near Kingsbarns beach, at approximately 1pm. He was described as around 5 foot 9, dark haired, having facial stubble, and allegedly spoke with an Italian accent.
He reportedly ran off in the direction of St Andrews and was wearing an orange running vest, shorts, and had a tattoo on the back of his right calf.
Police do not believe the attacks are linked but are considering all possibilities at this time.
On a Facebook post discussing this attack, locals made claims that the suspect described is known to be a repeat offender in the area and has been following solo female hikers with a drone. These claims have not yet been verified.
In a Police Scotland Facebook post, Inspector Helen Manuel reassured residents of the St Andrews area that there is an increased police presence in St Andrews, and if anyone has any information or concerns, they should speak to officers.
Police are appealing to any individuals who may have information pertaining to the case, including dash-cam or personal footage in or around the areas of either attack.
