Sunday I'm in Love

Your weekly Sunday League round-up

Sheffield Tuesday’s winner-takes-all clash against DLL was the talking point heading into the final round of Sunday League games. With Botswana Meat Commission having already booked their place in next week’s final, it was a straight shootout for the remaining spot.

DLL have been the surprise package this season, upsetting the likes of Spartans and showing a consistency that has kept them there or thereabouts all season.

After battling just to stay up last year, Sheffield Tuesday have mounted a serious charge this season. Their win over Strokers last week had things firmly in ‘whisper it quietly’ territory.

Their story has shades of Ghana’s run at the 2010 World Cup. Fortunately, Luis Suarez was not on hand (no pun intended) to deny them on the Sports Centre astroturf this time, as they ran out 5-1 winners.

Botswana Meat Commission will certainly be the bookies’ favourites after an invincible season, but Sheffield Tuesday go into the final in excellent form. Stranger things have happened.

It has been a frustrating campaign for the defending champions, but Spartans signed off in style with a 12-5 win over Strokers in a repeat of last semester’s final.

Real Sosobad's 10-5 defeat to Beavers confirmed their place in the second tier next season, while Butts Wynderers face a play-off against BPM to ensure survival.

I’m delighted to announce that I’ll be handing over the keys to Freddie Coughlin, a true Sunday League merchant, leaving you, our valued readers, in the safest of hands.

As FIFA President and Donald Trump’s lapdog Gianni Infantino once put it: “I don’t care if Monday’s blue. It’s Sunday I’m in love.”
