Love in the Bubble: Salads and Sauces
My Subway Love Story
Falling in love while working at Subway should be impossible. The shop is simply far too cramped, far too flimsy, and far too green to invite any possibility of romance. The quintessential beeping of a fast-food restaurant impedes any conversation, and you are shuttled around the store endlessly, baking bread and grabbing lettuce. The boredom of a minimum-wage job, however, demands connection, and under the watchful eye of Subway, I became brothers-in-arms with my coworkers.
However, there was one coworker above all that I got along with supremely well. My shifts became less about making sandwiches and more about making him laugh (which I discovered I was very good at). Somewhere between salads and sauces I found someone that I wanted to talk about everything with, whose opinions and thoughts I valued above many others.
I know it's more of a ‘meat-cute’ than a ‘meet-cute,’ but my idiosyncratic love story proves that the opportunity for romance is really everywhere. This town is small, sure, but it’s far from empty. You could stumble, trip, or collide with any number of people who want to get to know you. So keep those shoelaces untied and that heart open to love.
