Dundee resident Craig Cathro was sentenced to nineteen months in prison for a crime spree committed across Fife in May and June 2026. He pleaded guilty to all five charges filed against him.

Cathro, who was charged on counts of domestic abuse less than a year prior, targeted five businesses and other premises including the Tanning Rooms on Kinnessburn Road, Box Tacos in Guardbridge, Fast and Fresh Takeaway off A91, a storage facility in Bassaguard Business Park, and the Number 57 pub in Dundee. Four of these incidents occurred on 4 May 2026, whilst the Number 57 robbery occurred on 3 June 2026.

According to Fiscal Depute Sean Iles, Cathro was caught on CCTV “lift[ing] the Box Tacos service hatch and climb[ing] into the shipping container,” where he “stole £790.56 from the till and a grey HP Chromebook valued at between £200 and £300.”

Cathro proceeded to steal £150, a charity box, and several food and drink items from Fast and Fresh Takeaway after entering through one of the shop’s windows.

He also broke into a photographer’s storage facility in Bassaguard Business Park, where he left the site with approximately £200 worth of bronze and silver coins.

Cathro then broke into the Tanning Rooms, which caused £2000 worth of property damage. He attempted to rob the till, but the cash was secured in a locked safe. Tanning Rooms owner Stephen Lohoar explained that Cathro broke the door and till and disabled the CCTV system.

“The door was the biggest thing, actually,” Lohoar told The Saint. “[It] was quite an expensive glass door and he broke all the buckling around it.”

Despite this, Lohoar remains optimistic about the safety of St Andrews as he considers its overall “low crime rates.”

“I don’t think there’s a lot to do,” he said. “Keep your doors locked. Keep things safe. [...] But to be honest, to my knowledge, we’ve lived in town for a long time, and I don’t think this is a regular occurrence.”

Following these incidents, Cathro was arrested and held at Dundee Sheriff Court. He was released on bail on 1 June 2026 but was remanded to His Majesty’s Prison (HMP) Barlinnie after he stole £100 from the till at the Number 57 pub two days later, as confirmed by Iles.

According to previous reporting in The Courier, Cathro was charged with additional crimes in Tayside, including a separate twenty-count indictment for targeting fifteen businesses within a two-week period between April and May 2026.
