Four Charged Following Serious Assault On South Street

Police Scotland confirmed that four males have been charged following a serious assault on South Street at around 11:30pm on Saturday, 17 January.

The four made an attack on a 30-year-old man who, after sustaining serious head and facial injuries, attempted to enter a licensed premises on South Street, where he was refused entry, Police Scotland confirmed. He subsequently assaulted a member of door staff, who was not seriously injured.

The man was later arrested in connection with the door-staff incident and was taken by ambulance to Dundee Ninewells Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the earlier assault.

Following the incident, Police Scotland issued a public appeal for information in an effort to trace those responsible for the assault, with officers asking witnesses to come forward.

Inspector Helen Manuel said at the time: “We need to trace this group and would ask anyone who was in the South Street area between 11:30pm and midnight on Saturday and who saw what happened to get in touch.”

Inspector Manuel also appealed for digital evidence: “Anyone with video footage or information that can help our enquiries should come forward and speak with officers.”

In a further update issued on Thursday, 29 January, Police Scotland confirmed that the four males had been identified and charged as part of the investigation. The accused are two sixteen year-old males and two seventeen-year-old males.

Police also confirmed that a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. No further details regarding the identities of those charged or the nature of the charges have been released.

Police Scotland has not issued any additional updates about the event since 29 January.
